  The BEST hot chicken in all of existence is 400 Degrees. The taste, the flavor, the texture, the heat, the CONSISTENCY... it is worth the drive to North Nashville, and is about 10 minutes north of Metro Center.
  
  The owner is local resident, Aqui, who is a gem of a human, and is so down to Earth and always at the restaurant. She has been in this industry for around 14 years and came from Prince's, so she know whats up! She has also added hot shrimp, fish, and pork chops to the menu recently and I cannot wait to get shrimp next time I'm in.
  
  If you want some heat level but aren't too keen on alot of spice, order the 100 degrees. Personally, I order the 200 degrees... it's pretty spicy but not to the point where I am in pain the next day. I'd say it's comparable to Hattie B's Damn Hot/Shut the Cluck Up. Hard to compare it to anyone else since 400 and HB are the only hot chicken places that keep their heat levels consistent anymore (can you tell that's a pet peeve of mine? Cough cough PRINCES cough cough). If you have a high tolerance (and I mean high....), order the 400 degrees. And if you're just plain crazy like some of Aqui's regulars, 800 and 900 degrees do exist. Y'all are crazy!
  
  Sodas are sold in personal bottles, and Nashville's own Yazoo beer is on tap (yay).
  
  400 is seriously some of the best food around and I crave it pretty regularly. If you come to Nashville, this is a must try... you will not be disappointed! In the next year, it will also be available in the Nashville airport!

  Had a great experience here. The owner is honestly one of the most friendly, down to earth people we've ever encountered. As we waited for our order, we noticed she called a lot of her customers by name; showing she truly loves the community. Yes, I know - we are here to review the restaurant, not the character of the owner, but it is a critical point into why we are giving it the high rating, as customer service is definitely a part of the dining experience.
  
  The interior is fairly comfortable, it has a classic southern style. They also have a lot of art on display pertaining to Nashville, including a beautiful mural. Very one of a kind, for sure.
  
  We ordered a 400 Degrees Chicken Quarter, and an order of fries. We also ordered... get this... 900 degrees tenders for my husband and father to try (they're insane and love spicy foods). They also offer fish and colossal shrimp (which can be spiced up!).
  
  If you're in a rush, I'd recommend ordering ahead of time, as we had to wait around 30 minutes for our order. We had absolutely no problem with this, as we know how busy they can get.
  
  The 400 Degrees is a bit beyond my heat tolerance, but my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. The fries were very pleasantly seasoned, and even had a little heat which made it unique and extra tasty.
  
  My husband says the 400 degrees was nicely seasoned and had great flavor. He also said it was cooked perfectly - great crunch on the outside, without getting any dry meat.
  
  As for the 900 degrees... oh boy. He was on fire! He had one tender and reported: numbness in his face, a burning throat and tongue. He was sweating and coughing, and had to chug a couple glasses of ice water, and chase it down with vanilla ice cream. It took over 30 minutes for him to start feeling normal, but that's exactly what he wanted and hoped for. He's a masochist apparently. He wanted hot, and 400 Degrees definitely delivered.
  
  We cannot wait to go back and try some more hot chicken! Definitely give this place a try if you love hot chicken as much as we do!

  WHERE IS THE FLAVOR...
  
  So maybe I didn't truly understand what hot chicken was because with all the hype I was expecting something amazing, mind blowing , unforgettable in the best way. Sadly I was disappointed to discover after a two hour wait that hot chicken is all about the levels of heat and nothing else. As a southern girl born and raised I need my chicken to not only have heat but also flavor. Don't get me wrong the chicken was cooked to perfection and the difference in the levels of heat evident. The skin of the chicken was crispy the way I like it ... but that's were it stops for me. To those that understand what to expect when ordering hot chicken this place is good however it does not make my list of enjoyable and/or must haves.

  Called in an order for pickup at about 11:30am on a Thursday. Two orders of wings (mild and hot), a side of fries, potato salad, and baked beans. Was told it would be ready in about 45 minutes. So, I'd definitely recommend calling way ahead if you've got a time constraint!
  
  I got there right at the 45-minute mark, and the food was ready to go. First thing I tried was the fries. The seasoning on them was pretty good..but otherwise they were just your standard crinkle-cut fries...and a little too soft for my liking. The baked beans were good... very sweet. And I really enjoyed the potato salad!
  
  Now the chicken. It was cooked perfectly. The outside was crispy, thick, and crusty and the inside was juicy. But it was the spice/seasoning that threw me off. The chicken was coated, and it kind of had a dry powdery consistency? It was the first time I've had hot chicken quite like that...and I can't say that I'm a fan.
  
  As far as heat goes, I got the 200 degree which is considered hot...and it was definitely that!!  I tried a bite of my mom's 100 degree....and I wish I had ordered that... because there was a very nice heat to it, but less of that powdery/pasty stuff!

  Order ahead. Save yourself the disappointment of rolling up only to discover you have approximately 45 minutes to wait for fiery deliciousness.
  
  Aqui is a delight, and so is her chicken, but beware: the 200 degrees is more like most places' "hot" version. Other important things to know: the sides are respectable, though Hattie B's still beats everyone in town on that front (but just that front); the portions are large; and there is now indoor seating.
  
  I'm an every-other-month-or-when-people-are-visiting hot chicken eater, so it's hard for me to compare 400 Degrees to the other big contenders in town because I eat at Prince's et al so infrequently. But 400 Degrees is excellent and definitely in the best-in-town conversation.
